fighting techniques:

me and my friend have done (almost) all of missions in halo 3 on legendary.

our techniques for getting through, getting achievments or skulls are listed below

fools rush in:

(co-op)
one person stays in a safe area wwhile one runs in and kills as many enemies as possible before dying. this works exceptionally well on tough enemies or large amounts of enemies. such as the flood.

spray and pray:

(single/co-op)
not our method. but a favoured one. (only use if ammo is easy to find or you have a lot of it). instead of aiming at a large group of enemies. simply shoot randomly into the crowd. picking off as many as possile.

close range support:

(co-op)
one player has an assault rifle and one a shotgun. they run in side by side and the player with the assault rifle picks off grunts and the shotgun player the brutes, works suprisingly well.

long range support:

(co-op)
one player has an assault rifle and a shotgun and runs in to the area of danger, assault rifle for grunts, shotgun for brutes etc. meanwhile the other player has a sniper rifle and a rocket launcher (optional) and picks off larger enemies or stragglers from a distance.

taking down a scarab:

shooting the legs is the slowest way to take down a scarab. there are other ways:

* if there is a higher point than the scarab itself then simply get on top of the object and draw the scarabs attention. then run and jump on to the machine and destroy its core that way

* shoot one of the side doors and with a lucky jump/or when the scarab nears terrain that reaches the door, get inside and destroy its core.

* a well - placed plasma grenade through the back can sometimes hit the core and destroy the scarab. remember the core is on the second floor.

* rocket pods can home in on the core themselves if launched from the back

* grenade jumps can get you in the back.

NEVER rely on your marine teammates to help. they are useless.
